Campbell reminds us to open our hearts and allow our creative impulses to find that serene place where we find inspiration and then act on it. In our Collective’s case, this means making photographs that matter, that speak to our deepest connection with our subject. These are our moments of ‘finding our bliss’.
Take for instance John Clark and Tom Vancisin’s monochrome photographs from the Yosemite Valley. They each find serenity walking among the trees in any season. Keiko Yamasaki also finds her serenity seeing color among the forests and parks in Japan.
Deb Hellman’s toned Cyanotypes are memories of her New Jersey childhood home and Jodie Hulden’s memories of beloved locations include ‘her tree’ in upper Yosemite.
Grant Brittain found his older portraits of skater friends, then printed and played with them using paint and even sand on the surfaces. Robert Barry strolls through the environment, he loves…city sidewalks and alleyways…and uses depth and color to make his statement.
Stephen Davis’ Cyanotypes are his new passion, as is pinhole photography and you will see both here. Terry Allen’s dramatic scenics are his way of speaking about his places of solitude.
Bob Younger explains in his statement that he finds his bliss in the emotional and visual dialog with the natural world.
David Marsh explores the world of Photogravure finding peaceful moments in the slow, process of applying ink and making a print.
Brandy Sebastian finds a way to explore inner emotions through shadows which seem to anticipate sonograms, a process with which she is all too familiar.
In my own work, my busy life is slowed down by walking with my camera, sometimes my Rolleiflex, often an iPhone. I find connection with small moments within nature.
Perhaps this work by our Collective of fine photographers will encourage you to find your bliss.
