Spend 2 1/2  days and 3 nights with Donna Cosentino on beautiful Palomar Mountain in the Bailey House, a 130 year-old homestead situated on eighty private acres.
This location includes meadows, and deciduous as well as evergreen forest. In addition, there are human elements…old sheds, wellhouses and antique vehicles, plus the interior of the house we are staying in is classically decorated and your bedroom may afford interesting compositions. A bonus is the old General Store and ‘Barn’ next to the Bailey House.  Wide view and detail shots abound in this space which, one hundred years ago, was also the mountain post office.

We will be shooting early and late during the day with me as your guide and mentor, and at mid-day and after dinner we’ll discuss:

  1. Your digital images from the day
  2. Prints you have brought for critique/discussion
  3. Discussions about image selection process for portfolios

As I am strong on Black and White  film shooting, I encourage you to bring your 35mm, 120mm, or 4x5 cameras.  In the field we can discuss seeing in Black and White, light meter use and proper exposure for tones.  I also like to spend time on composition and use of Depth of Field. Of course, Digital is always welcome!

II guarantee a fabulous weekend in a magical place.

  • WE SHOULD HIT OCTOBER ASPENS CHANGING COLOR AT VARIOUS ELEVATIONS
  • IF THERE’S A HARD FREEZE THE TREES COULD BE BARE AND BEAUTIFUL
  • WE COULD GET A LIGHT SNOWFALL
  • WE SHOULD HAVE GREAT SKIES!

Spend 4 days and 3 nights with Donna Cosentino as your Photography guide and mentor in the Eastern Sierra. We will be based in Lee Vining, centrally located to several great photographic opportunities including Lee Vining Creek, Mono Lake, Silver Lake, and Tuolumne Meadows or Bodie Ghost Town.

This is a great chance to take Nature at Her best and spend time with a group of photographers who have the same kind of passion for photographing these locations.  Three full days of shooting plus there will be one or two night-time outings at Mono Lake for star fields, star trails and painting with light as well.

As I am strong on Black and White  film shooting, I encourage you to bring your 35mm, 120mm, or 4x5 cameras.  In the field we can discuss seeing in Black and White, light meter use and proper exposure for tones.  I also like to spend time on composition and use of Depth of Field. Of course, Digital cameras are welcome as well and they are g r e a t  for nighttime work! I will give you a full itinerary before we go, maps and directions, and you will know how to prepare and what to bring for a successful experience.

West Coast Photography was a reaction to the Pictorialist style of soft focus photography popular in the 19th century.  Carmel was the epicenter of photographers who were looking for a modernist way of expressing themselves with sharply focused images. Pioneers Ansel Adams and Edward Weston were among the leaders of the movement.

This workshop takes you to locations they often photographed and introduces you to photographers who continue that style. We also visit those who blaze their own more contemporary trail. You will photograph along the beautiful California coast (from Big Sur to Monterey) AND will meet fine art photographers in their studios. We also visit photography galleries and the wonderful museum in Monterey. There is no other workshop like this! You will be inspired to make meaningful photographs and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers. Donna will lead you on this special adventure and always makes herself available for one-on-one assistance.  For any level from iphone to large format.
