Artist Statement:
I have been thinking a lot lately about my early days when I first picked up a borrowed camera and started clicking away on the shutter button. It was in the early 1980s when I entered the darkroom and started to explore the photographic universe. My life at that time was all about skateboarding, music, surfing, art, zines, graphics, and expressing myself with my new found artistic medium. I looked to the past and present for inspiration from the likes of Dada, the Bauhaus, Abstract Expressionism, Pop-Art, Punk Rock, New Wave, and fashion magazines. I did not have a style in the beginning, I developed that as I learned more about photography by way of looking, borrowing, and stealing from the Masters and even my peers. I have Found My Bliss and I count myself lucky, some folks never find their’s.
These Mixed Media photos are a happy return to what I was doing to my photos in the 80s while working on those Xeroxed Skate Zines.
