Artist Statement:
One of my primary joys in being an artist is the communion between me and what I’m photographing, usually in the natural world. There’s life in all things. Often a rock, tree, or leaf calls out to me, saying, “Hey, Bob, look over here.” I find my bliss in a continuing emotional and visual dialogue as I arrange camera and film to make the photograph.
I believe that as an artist I have a responsibility to the world, the world I photograph and the people who live in it. Not every photograph I make is going to be a pretty picture to hang on the wall, or even something that sells. But it must convey some of that emotional energy that I felt when I made it. It must cause a change, however small, in how someone sees the world.
