Artist Statement: For these leaf studies I collect interesting leaves in my yard or during walks around my neighborhood. I’m drawn towards the un-perfect, the most interesting ones show signs of scarring or transitioning between stages of life. I arrange them on my flatbed scanner under heavy glass. I let the smudges and dust and dirt accumulate between scans. I edit the inverted result, then find an arrangement between the positive and negative for the final image. The image is then put into a photopolymer plate and printed using an etching press.
