To capture beauty? To express joy or pain? To speak about the environment? To record an event, our friends, our families? There are a hundred thousand reasons and more. Each person has their own purpose, their particular way to express their story.
Two things weave throughout photography like warp and weft on a loom… Time and Memory. Consider ‘Time’. It is the the Warp, the lengthwise threads that are the beginning, and the end, the placeholder, and the foundation. The Weft becomes the memories we weave throughout our history. These pass through time, through lives we have touched, and those that have touched us. These threads are the expression of who we are, what we have known, what we have survived.
In this exhibition, our Collective of photographers have expressed Time and Memory in multiple ways. They have each woven into their story encounters with those things that matter to them.
Take a look and linger with your favorites. Decide for yourself which story touches you. And then think about why. Is it the memories they bring forth? The relationship to time passing or time past? I hope you enjoy these interpretations of Time and Memory.
