DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT: “The value is always in the eye of the beholder. What is worthless to one person may be very important to someone else.” Peter Ackroyd, author
As photographers we spend our time ‘looking’ and sometimes, hopefully, ‘seeing’. We behold much that lies before us but each one of us sees differently and sees ‘value’ in different subjects. Our Collective of photographers affirm this in our exhibition. The variety of content and subsequent print performance by our group is wide and fascinating.
In the steps to making a photograph, the first is that the photographer must recognize a subject worthy of their attention. Ansel Adams said, “A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense”. Each photographer’s mind and heart engage a subject with their own unique way of seeing. That deep sense he spoke of is the culmination of intuition and connection. It is the gift of our endeavor.
But…not all of us are drawn to the same subject and even when we are, we perform the image in our own unique way. In this exhibition you will see the landscape, cityscape, still life, and portrait photographed in a wealth of methods by our Collective of Photographers. You will see distinctive ways of performing the print digitally, in the darkroom and using alternative processes. I believe you will find work of great depth in our exhibition. Please enjoy.
