JOHN MIRELES HAS VISITED CITIES IN EVERY STATE CREATING CAREFULLY POSED PORTRAITS ON THE STREET AND HIS RESULTING LARGE-SCALE PRINTS HAVE SHOWN FROM ALASKA TO NEW YORK. IN THIS BODY OF WORK HOWEVER, MIRELES RESTRICTED HIMSELF TO MAKE ONLY STREET PHOTOGRAPHS WITHOUT THE SUBJECT’S PERMISSION. WORKING STEALTHILY WITH ONE LENS AND STAYING WITHIN THE FIVE NEW YORK BURROUGHS, HE HAS DOCUMENTED LIFE ON THE STREET CALLING THE RESULTING IMAGES “A BLINK IN THE MOMENT OF THIS CONSTANTLY MOVING AND CHANGING CITY”. THESE COLORFUL AND ENERGETIC PHOTOGRAPHS ARE STORIES TOLD THROUGH A KEEN EYE WITH GREAT AFFECTION FOR A CITY KNOWN FOR ITS DIVERSITY.
