Artist Statement:
ALTERED LANDSCAPES
I engage with landscape, both natural and urban, using an interdisciplinary approach combining photography, textile and assemblage. I back my photographs with interfacing and sew on them using machine embroidery until the threads integrate with the photographs to create a new object: photographic tapestries.
Sewing allows me to get my hands into the photograph, and thread changes the photographs into something more dimensional and textural. Thread is a transformational element in my work, and the finished pieces feel like fabric. The threads blur the line between what’s the
photograph and what’s beyond the picture or imagined.
