Artist Statement:
These images are from the San Diego River where I have been making photos for three years now. The river continues to surprise and delight me.
“The Birdhouse” is of an old oak, near the river. It has since died from the drought.
“Four Sycamores” is of a corpse of large sycamores just adjacent to Kumeyaay Lake.
“Morning at Eagle Peak” is of Temescal Creek, a tributary to the river running through Eagle Peak Preserve.
“Hidden Treasure” is an image of a tucked away “homestead” that was found shortly after the San Diego River Park Foundation purchased Lillian Hill. The debris has since been cleared away, trailer and all. Both Eagle Peak Preserve and Lillian Hill now serve as important wildlife corridors for indigenous species such as mountain lion, bobcat, badger, fox, etc.
The triptych, “River Source and Cattle” shows the seep, or “Cienega”, that is the source of the San Diego River. It is located just northwest of Julian adjacent to Volcan Mountain. Ranchers use this mountain location to pasture and water cattle.
