Artist Statement
Growing up I remember seeing movie and TV westerns. The scenery was so different from that of the east coast where I lived. Our family never did one of the cross-country driving trips to see the western US. Though I dreamed of seeing some of the places in those westerns. Only after moving to San Diego and becoming interested in photography in my late 30s did I start to visit places like Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra. Recently, I’ve started to go to some more of those bucket list western locations. One of those places is Monument Valley. I planned my visit to occur when there would be a full moon. In addition, during monsoon season, hoping to get some nice clouds and the possibility of thunderstorms. What many might consider bad weather is good weather for a photographer. Monument Valley is truly one of the unique and spectacular places in our country.
