ARTIST STATEMENT
In Cypress Grove, Point Lobos Natural Reserve, I found myself slowing down without trying. The trees, shaped by years of wind and salt, hold an incredible unexpected beauty, their branches touched with red algae that catches the last light of the day. As the sun drops, the light moves through the grove in soft, golden streams, made visible by sea mist. I hear the ocean in the background, waves hitting the rocks, steady and grounding, while everything else feels still and calm. The air is cool and damp, settling on my skin in a way that makes me very aware of my body, breath, place within it all.
This work comes from those moments of simply being. It’s about feeling connected, not in a grand or dramatic way, but in a quiet, honest one. Standing among these trees reminded me how much we’re a part of the universe; how much we rely on these spaces even when we don’t realize it. There’s a tenderness to that awareness, and a responsibility. These landscapes feel strong and enduring, but they are also fragile, and worth protecting.
