Awakening
ARTIST STATEMENT:
For some, an “Awakening” is a rare and profound encounter, taking on infinite shapes and forms. It can leave a person feeling drained, overwhelmed, or even frustrated, while others find themselves brimming with joy, gratitude, and an unwavering readiness for change. Personally, these awakenings are deeply spiritual, fundamentally altering my physical and mental state, aligning me with my higher self.
In 2017, I embarked on a year-long awakening, grappling with the challenges of my disease, Endometriosis. Two surgeries, an unforgettable chemical reaction to fertility medication, and forced therapy—change was inevitable. At that critical juncture, I had a choice: succumb to grief and despair, unsure if I wanted to live or perish, or take a daring leap of faith and fight back. I chose the latter. From that crucible of experiences, I birthed an ongoing project, "Good Little Fly," a poignant endeavor that seeks to raise awareness. Through interviews, documentary work, and portrait photography, I aim to engage viewers in the stories of fellow Endometriosis Warriors.
Awakening serves as a profound act of self-care, nurturing my mind, body, and spirit. I firmly believe in the intricate web of connections that bind us to all aspects of existence, spanning both the physical and ethereal realms of our world and the boundless expanses of our universe. I have been bestowed with an opportunity to effect change and foster awareness through the lens of my life experiences and my photographic voice.
Through the artful fusion of photographic image layering and compositing, my creations transcend the boundaries of a singular image. They unfold as a fluid dance, a symphony composed of countless moments intricately woven together. Leveraging the power of today's technology, I harness filters, depth, and dimension to enhance the final print, evoking a sense of enchantment and wonder. Light and location become integral players in enriching the tapestry of my surreal dreamscapes. Drawing upon landscapes across the United States, I breathe life into my visions, manifesting my dreams and meditations in tangible form. This body of work stands as a testament to my unwavering commitment as a woman and as an individual—a manifestation of my innermost thoughts conveyed through the captivating medium of visual storytelling, photography.
