Media: Palladium Print with Gum Bichromate

Process:
Gum bichromate is used to add color to a platinum/palladium print. Once the exposed print is completely dry it is sized with a layer of hardened gelatin to seal the surface of the paper. Then the sealed print is coated with a mixture consisting of watercolor pigments, gum arabic, and ammonium. The watercolor pigments can be used in any combination to add the desired color to the original print. The digital negative is placed on top of the coated print, using a light box to register and realign it exactly to the image on the print. The negative and coated print are then placed in the contact frame and re-exposed in the UV box. The print is then cleared in a succession of water baths to remove any leftover gum.
