Artist Statement:
We all hold memories and keep them close to our hearts. “Tea with Nana” preserves a moment in time with one of those memories and family history. My Great-Grandmothers silverware had been handed down three generations. When I spent my summer vacation with Nana we often had tea in the afternoon with the best linens, china and the family silverware. “Tea with Nana” and “The Fabric of Our Lives” is a nostalgic look at families memories and the interlocking weave of the past with the present.
Process:
Platinum and palladium is a historical photographic process. The print is made from hand-mixed and hand-coated emulsion. The paper was coated with a glass rod and once dry, the negative was placed in direct contact with the coated paper, and then exposed to ultraviolet light. The proportions of platinum to palladium in the emulsion, choice of developers and the temperature of the developer control the final color.
