Artist Bio:
Jacqueline Ramirez is a San Diego based artist and educator.

Her photography is characterized by curiosity and a continual interest in the ordinary moment. By experimenting with pictorial organization, loose narrative structure and alternative printing and process techniques there is an attempt to create an elusive document of a moment, potentially making it extraordinary.

She believes a beautiful thing is never perfect and “the best teacher is also a student.” (fortune cookie message).

Process:
A lumen print is made by exposing a negative or objects over light-sensitive paper under the sun. I used expired photographic paper along with doll pajamas from the 60s which were made for Barbie’s little sister Skipper.
There is an unpredictability to the process which I enjoy, as well as the connection to early photographic experiments done by William Henry Fox Talbot as early as 1835.
