Jacqueline Ramirez is a San Diego based artist and educator.
Her photography is characterized by curiosity and a continual interest in the ordinary moment. By experimenting with pictorial organization, loose narrative structure and alternative printing and process techniques there is an attempt to create an elusive document of a moment, potentially making it extraordinary.
She believes a beautiful thing is never perfect and “the best teacher is also a student.” (fortune cookie message).
Process:
A cyanotype is made by exposing a negative or objects over paper treated with ferric ammonium oxalate and potassium ferricyanide under the sun. The process was discovered in 1842 by Sir John Herschel as a practical method to copy his scientific notes (blueprint). The success of the final image is dependent on many variables, but the unpredictability of the process continues to engage my love of chance.
