"Mono Lake"

Mono Lake
Andrew Hanenberg

Media: Wet Plate Collodion on Vintage Camera
Size: 4"x5"6"
Price: $1000

Process:
The piece Mono Lake was created utilizing a combination of analog film combined with wet plate collodion to produce the final piece. Although box cameras are one of the oldest types of cameras their simplicity with a fixed aperture and spring shutter has allowed them to work the same today as when they were first sold. The process starts by taking the box camera out in the field to shoot a roll of film with it. After processing the film, I look for the image that speaks most to me to showcase on the camera. In order to use the collodion, process I seal the cameras so that they will resist degradation from the solvents and chemicals of the process. After they have been sealed, I make a wet plate print on the side of the camera. The vision behind this project is to turn each camera into art by showcasing the beautiful images that they can still produce.
