ITEM 15: "Merced River Winter Reflection" by Marek Matusz
ITEM 15 Donation by Marek Matusz Title: Merced River Winter Reflection, 2024 Media: Chrysotype on Revere Platinum Paper Print Size: 8"x10" Matted: 16"x20" Valued: $350 Starting Bid: $150 Artist Process: The print showcases chrysotype's most desirable characteristic, which is a duotone effect with blue highlights and purple shadows. Chrysotype prints are made out of pure gold and, as such, are thought to be the most stable photographic images created. After all, gold has survived in unchanged form from antiquity. There are only a few photographers worldwide practicing chrysotype, and the current gold price will further discourage future experimentation. While it is relatively easy to produce a beginner's chrysotype, the process is very difficult to control to obtain repeatable results, print after print. Even in a batch of prints made on the same day with the same paper and chemistry, there will always be some variation in a finished print.
