Whenever I look at the night sky, I remember the fond memories of me and my mother going out to the rice field behind our house almost every night to watch. She was trying to correct my nearsightedness. I was about 10 years old and enjoyed this relaxing time with my busy mother. After my vision was slightly corrected, we resolved to appreciate the slight improvement. However, even after we gave up trying for full correction of my vision, we went to the rice field to observe many astronomical events such as meteor showers, lunar eclipses, etc. Fall was the best time because we were able to lay on the ground and no mosquitos to torture us. My mother passed away in May, 2021. I always feel her watching the night sky with me.
