Javier, age 11 and other curious onlookers in Playas Tijuana, Mexico look through the 8’ high border fence towards a gathering of musicians in Friendship Park in Imperial Beach, California on October 9, 1979. The marble stone obelisk marks the western end of the international boundary that stretches nearly 1,900 miles to the Gulf of Mexico.
