Bio

Tom Vancisin is a San Diego based photographer specializing in black and white landscapes. Photography became an interest in his late thirties, and he pursued photography as a hobby during his nearly 40 year IT career. He has taken classes at various San Diego area community colleges (San Diego City, Grossmont, and Palomar) in both film and digital. In addition, he has taken photography workshops from Michael Frye, Bruce Barnbaum, and John Paul Caponigro. Recently, he started exploring alternative processes including cyanotypes and platinum/palladium printing. His film and digital prints have been juried exhibitions including the San Diego County Fair International Photography Exhibition, the city of Vista photography exhibition, and in the Center for Photography in Carmel’s Members Juried Show. Most recently one of Tom’s photographs was selected for inclusion in Lenswork’s book, “Our Magnificent Planet”. Throughout his career, he found that photography provided the necessary creative outlet to balance his work life. Tom retired in December 2017 and now devotes more time to his passion for photography.
