Backyard birding during Covid-19 confinement: A hummingbird mother built a nest on a pulley supporting a backyard patio chandelier. Two babies can be seen in the nest, one dead (seen listing over the side of the nest toward the viewer) and the other just about ready to take flight. The mother made repeated circuits, bringing food to the living baby. For a few hours, watching this cycle of life played out on a small scale, I could almost forget the pandemic was upending the world we knew.
